Mushroom
composting
Producing 40,000 tonnes
a year of high specification, food quality, compost for mushroom growers,
ASC offers a natural, biological process using both traditional windrow
methods and stainless steel, computer controlled and vented tunnels – some
of the most technically advanced in the composting industry, guaranteeing
complete sterilisation of the final product.
ASC's customers can purchase compost
in a loose state or wait until after pasteurisation and the addition
of mushroom spawn. Before
compost can be used for growing mushrooms it has to be heat-treated to
ensure any harmful bacteria are killed.
Working to strict manufacturing standards, each stage
of the composting process is regularly inspected by the Environmental
Health Officer under the Environmental Protection Act and by the Environment
Agency.
Always out to minimise the impact
of its operations on the environment and local residents, ASC has invested
in an odour control system to reduce unwanted smells from the natural
composting processes. The system, known as 'Mist-Air' runs around
the edge of the site and is biodegradable and 100% safe for people,
animals and plant life.
