Local composting company plans £4 million investmentSunhill composting firm, the Agricultural Supply Company (ASC) has announced plans to modernise its facilities, which will see a massive £4 million investment in new technology. A valuable boost to the local economy in the current challenging economic climate, the proposed upgrade will see the company invest £4 million in the construction of new facilities environmental improvements – creating 15 new jobs as well as significant employment for local suppliers. Designed to improve the quality of the compost currently produced at the site, the new facilities will not increase the production capacity at the plant but will bring added benefits of reduced noise, odours and onsite traffic. Commenting on the plans, ASC Managing Director John Clay said; “The UK currently imports 1,000 tonnes a week of high quality ‘phase III’ compost from Holland to meet the demands of domestic mushroom growers. We hope to capitalise on the demand and begin to produce this organic, high grade compost locally.” The plans will see the construction of 16 computer controlled and vented, stainless steel tunnels, where compost will be pasteurised and conditioned, allowing incubation to take place onsite over a two-week period. As part of the modernisation programme, an aerated pad is also planned to ensure oxygen is constantly blown through the compost; an environmental improvement that meets rigorous Environmental Protection Agency standards. ASC is currently seeking planning permission for the upgrade from Cotswold District Council and once given the thumbs up, the new facilities should be in place within six months.ENDS Issued on behalf of Agricultural Supply Company by Carole Pendle PR.
